Repeat It Again and Worry Worts

Why is it kids have to be told the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again? Here are some real life examples provided by Wee Killys:

"Don't walk around outside in your socks. Put shoes on or go barefooted." (Yes, if it's 40 degrees outside, I'm still okay with bare feet v. socks outside.)
"Pick the hangers up off the floor." (The very name implies where they belong.)
"Put your dirty clothes in the dirty clothes basket." (Another example of a name no-brainer.)
"Why do you try to get my attention to tell me more "evidence" against the child being read the riot act. If you are not in trouble and want to be in trouble then by all means, keep interrupting me. Now I have to stop and give you a lecture about interrupting AND not bringing trouble to another."
"When you are excused, don't leave your plate/bowl on the table, put it in the dishwasher."
"6+0 is not 0, it is 6."
"Don't stand/walk/jump on the furniture."
"Don't color/write/draw on the walls/van/self."
"Throwing a fit will never get you what you are asking for."

I am getting better and better at just saying these words and walking on instead of spewing them through clenched teeth at the kids. YAY me.

Why is it people (women) in stores are always worried about my kids getting hurt.

So they are standing up in the seat of the cart to reach the dazzling box on the shelf that has them in a trance...I see the kid and figure if they fall maybe they will listen to me the next time I tell them to "Sit down, I'm moving the cart." Afterall, I told them to sit down over and over and over and over again.

In a sweet sing songy voice, the female owner of a little store told my daughter who was opening the door of the shop and holding it open to, "Be careful, you might get hurt." I just looked at Mable and smiled. I thought to myself, "Lady, I'm willing to take that chance."

And the most common time I see women panic is when Mable tries to climb in or out of the seat of the cart by herself. I get all kinds of ladies hurdling over their carts to ensure she doesn't fall. She is quite agile and capable of getting in and out of the cart by herself as were Anthony and then Phoebe prior to her. It seems if they spend any amount of time in a cart they naturally develop the ability to scale it like spiderman.

I wonder how much these worry-wort women had to pay to keep their kids in a bubble for 18 years. Maybe mine are just super-precious looking...
