Something to Cheer About

I want my kids to grow up being people who have something to cheer for and look for husbands who have something to cheer for. You know, things that identify us as "Killy." The thing might be quirky or common but it adds excitement to life to have things to root for. I grew up in a family that was not quirky or "hangup-y"but I married into a family with opinions, passions, hangups (in a good sense.)

Our new Killys don't understand all this yet but I'm looking forward to watching them come to love Killyness.

Here are some of our Killy-isms...these are my husband's quirks which I appreciate and am so thankful for these things that unify us and give us..."something to cheer about."

We love football. When we are watching a game, if the ball touches the hands of a player he should have caught the ball. We yell at him about it as though he can hear us through the TV.

If anyone's driving gives my husband cause to being ticked, we're all telling the other driver how dumb he/she is (they can't really hear us yelling 'cuz we all stay in the car.) I remember the first time it happened that instead of telling Scott to calm down I piped up from my seat, "Yeah, ya jerk!" He smiled and felt vindicated. Our relationship is so much better now that he knows I'm on his side.

If my husband says, "I need you..." while zooming down the road, he wants to know if he can get left. We flow seamlessly around traffic. It's a super trusting groove we have going on and it is so much fun to drive together.

Our Christmas tree always comes from the same place with glowing lights and a peaceful quietness. Menards.

When the kids go to bed, the party begins. We especially love that it gets dark around 7 now. One more week til we fall back and if I figure if I serve dinner at 4:30 we should be able to get them in bed around 6.

I know these things are mostly between Scott and me but our kids are watching and we see our original two understanding this groove, these quirks, the fun-ness Scott and I have together and they jump in to offer assistance and comply with the rules of the party we have here everyday. Yay for something to cheer about!
