The Scoop. A Killy Series Continues

I left you hanging a bit here at Wee Killys didn't I? Hinting that we were going to Watseka but not really saying for sure. Today I will be clear (and hopefully not too boring as I have mostly facts to share.) We are going to Watseka, Illinois. (Cue the confetti!)

Scott has been called by the congregation at Amazing Grace Church there. Scott is in the process of being transferred from the Ohio Presbytery into the Northern Illinois Presbytery (NIP). He is working on transfer exams for that and has been in contact with several men in charge of the corresponding committees to make it all happen. On February 1, Scott attended the Ohio Presbytery meeting and they voted to change his status to "without call" effective once the congregation of Christ the Word votes to accept his resignation which takes place at this coming Sunday's congregational meeting. This status then allows Scott to move forward and transfer into the NIP.  The Ohio Presbytery also volunteered some financial support for this ministry as well. Separately, another church from the Ohio presbytery also informed us they'd like to give us some financial support. Both these were sweet blessings for us to hear. We are so grateful to God and His people! I'm doing the big ole HAPPY DANCE! Woot! Through all this I do not want to neglect to state what Scott and I cling to. We know this has to be the Lord's work.
Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1
You're Hungry Kid? Have a sandwich!
We were in Watseka this past weekend. Despite having the worst weather we've experienced so far and 6 energetic kids in a 7 passenger van we had a really great time. Each visit we try to combine the business end of things with getting to know church attendees. Scott was able to meet with individuals from the church as well as an insurance man. I met a 4th grade boy at the library who was all chatty and friendly. I also got to meet a couple of the librarians. I'm excited to find they were the sweet helpful kind who didn't seem to mind a bunch of kids hanging out for a few hours trying to keep it to a dull roar. Scott and I, as well as our kids, all enjoy our time in Watseka tremendously. We are scheduled to travel there a few more times at this point but everyone (us and they) is excited for us just to be there.

For those keeping track, for the next month our schedule looks like this:
February 15 & 16-Toledo
February 22 & 23- Normal, IL to meet with a church interested in helping support the ministry
March 1 & 2-Toledo
March 8 & 9-Watseka

We have found a house we hope to buy in Watseka. (Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.) It has 4 bedrooms, a couple bathrooms, basement, large yard, 2 car garage, big living space, big dining room, walk up 3rd floor space. It's in town, close to the people, and close to the church. The cost is reasonable and we will be able to own for much less than we could rent a place that would probably not even compare size-wise. Our house here has had a bunch of showings since relisting it 3 weeks ago. While we were in Watseka we had a 2nd showing and were encouraged by our realtor as he said he expects the people to put in an offer when they get their house under contract which he also said they believe they have identified the buyers for their home. We'll see. We are not anxious about these things but waiting on the Lord to put all the pieces together. Even if the house we want ends up not working out we will take that as direction from God and we are content with what He does knowing that His plan is perfect and for our good (Romans 8:28.)

Even though Amazing Grace is not a church plant we view this as a mission field or a mission type work because we need to have people support us financially to get it all off the ground in a formal way. I mentioned some churches have stepped up to help with this and the Northern Illinois Presbytery is excited about a PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) church in the Watseka area as there really isn't anything up that way. We will be a "mission" church under the care of the NIP when things are more formalized.

I have been finding my "tech-ness" researching how to make a church website. I'll make sure to share it when we get it up and running.

Scott continues to work at Chick Fil A and Lifeway Christian Store here. We are both starting the process of figuring out where we will work part-time in Watseka.

If you've missed us at our usual haunts our kids will return to Awana and I to ladies Bible study as soon as the weather cooperates and I figure out how to balance kids, dinner, house showings and Awana/youth group/other activities. Seems Wednesday is a big day for house showings.

I feel so bad this update just seems so boring and scattered. I hope you've got a picture of what we're up to. Let me know if you're wondering about other things and I'll keep you in the loop
.
