Laundry Day

On the last day of the year we ran into the zoo to use up our passes for
the carousel that would expire that day.  This has nothing to do with the title of today's post but I like including a pic and I didn't snap one of the laundry, plus this one is much cuter.

I'm feeling very practical today so I offer you this "genius" moment I recently had. Wednesday is laundry day and I'm testing my stroke of genius. No sorting the clothes just  keep the clothes separated by room. So all the girl's clothes are shoved from the basket straight into the washer: jeans, socks, undies, and all. Seems silly to spend time sorting the clothes before I wash only to have to sort them again after the wash. Who cares if jeans are in with other stuff, right? The clothes go from dryer to basket and they just haul their clothes to their room and put them away. I did throw the whites in a separate basket today but I may just shove those socks in there too. So far, so good. Three more loads of laundry to go! Now if this is only new to me and you know how great this method is would you just humor me and call me "genius" this once?

You are such a genius! Andrew must be a genius, too, since he figured out this trick when our last baby was born and he was on laundry duty for a week. Absolutely no sorting, wash everything on cold, and it works like a charm! I've been doing it that way ever since and I've never had a problem. I do pull out some of my more expensive things if I'm afraid of bleeding, but our general wash (which, as you know, is not full of designer fashions!) does great with no sorting. I like this method because I can just do one load every morning, regardless of what is dirty. That works better for us than doing tons of loads one day a week. Love you! Thanks for the blog posts!

Glad to hear it Sarah. I notice you mention the load-a-day thing. I'm considering the "load a day" (or maybe every 2) as I've heard others tout this as a good way to stay on top of the laundry pile. Seems blechy to me to have to deal with it everyday but right now I do about 6 loads on Wednesday--doesn't work when Wednesday takes me away from home and of course the mountain of clothes is blechy too. I think I'm going to try it and see. Your family always looks splendid so I'm happy to know you are "no sorters!" Thanks for reading my blog posts! Love you too friend.

I get all the laundry gathered at night, and the first thing I do in the morning after my alarm goes off is to put the laundry in the washing machine (or the "wetter" as my 3 year old calls it). That sufficiently wakes me up to keep me alert when I go back to sit on my bed and do my Bible reading. It also means that by the time I'm fully awake, showered, dressed, and down for breakfast, the laundry is ready for the dryer. Which also means it's ready to be folded and put away before nap time. That's the goal for the day: get the laundry put away before 1:00! Yes, I set my sights so high... snort. I'm sure you are just fascinated by this dissertation on how I do laundry.
